Crossfit Charlotte and Crossfit Belmont team up once again!
I needed a day to process the weekend's events before I could post anything and to save everyone from a long somewhat sappy post I decided to indulge in a long somewhat sappy blog post. I also decided since it was MLK day yesterday I would save this for today.
Saturday:
I got up and left Belmont butt early to be in Greensboro in time for Angie and I to once again tackle the War of the WODS competition. This one was going to challenge us for sure because we had to do pull ups and rope climbs (or jumping rope pull ups which seemed much harder than just climbing the rope) but instead of deter us from going we decided let's go and see what we got! And I love how Angie came prepared with a quote for the day, "Remember to always shoot for the sky, so if by chance you missed....at least you'll know you're there with the stars" and "Aim your goals high today".
I love being her partner for several reasons. Angie has just as much heart if not more than any athlete that stood on the podium this weekend. Her drive and determination are like no other and doesn't let anything stand in the way of her goals. She's also extremely encouraging and motivating especially when we are in the middle of the workout. I love how we compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses. I think that's what makes a great team, being able to read your partner and know if she(or he) needs anything or is so gassed you take over. And I think we did great all things considered! We belong to two different gyms and had limited time to train together, we put together a game plan but knew we may have to deviate from this plan once we got there because let's face it once you are in the heat of it all things will change. But we showed up and I always think by just showing up you're already a winner because you did something that most people our age wouldn't dream of doing.
(Only 8% of crossfit members are 45-54. And before anyone calls me out, yes I know I'm not 45 but I'm close enough)
What made my heart swell though was the support and love from my CFB family. Man, when I say, faith, family and crossfit if you aren't lucky enough to belong to a gym where you walk in and just feel the love you are missing out on the BIGGEST and BEST part of a crossfit gym. We are FAMILIA. They are there cheering you on at your best and your worst. Telling you its ok to just do the single unders if you don't feel comfortable doing the double unders. Telling you to suck it up and no whining when doing a workout with ripped hands but then as soon as you are done saying ok you can whine now. Making a hour and a half drive and sitting there all day even though they weren't working out just to be supportive, that's serious love right there folks. I'm not a wealthy person but if you measure it by my standards I am. And the funny part is even though we have a tendency to see each other daily and even do things outside of the box we don't seem to tire of each other.
And Saturday ended on a high note for a few reasons:
1. We had two teams place in the top 3! So proud of Courtney and Cassidy and Lisa and John!
2. Even though I ripped my hands all to shit, I climbed a rope for the first time in a competition and did double unders for the first time in a competition.
3. I got to spend the day with people I love doing something I love.
4. And lastly I finally got to eat a Hops burger! Marc talks about them all the time. |

Sunday:
On Sunday I had the pleasure of judging and I loved it! I loved getting to watch some amazing athletes compete. I watched them all say good luck to each other before they started and good job once they were done. This is the one thing that really hits home for me with crossfit because we are all just trying to get better and still cheering for our brothers and sisters as they are trying to get better as well. I hope if you are struggling to find a place, you get as lucky as me.
I also want to give a BIG shout out to Jean (Wodapalooza) and Haley (Iron Brave Games) because they both finished 1st place at their competitions! They are beast!
peace, love and joy
